Song Review: La La La Kerjalah

This is a catchy song from Meet Uncle Hussein, a rather famous Malaysian band that I listen to. Basically the gist of the song is about how this person worries about not having a job after graduation and his degree is merely an ornament for the wall, he finally secured a job and felt relieved but he then realized that it doesn't seem as glamorous as it sounds and sooner or later his work becomes extremely repetitive that he starts complaining how boring it is, in reality he has no choice but to stick to the job because he needs the money. How honest!

That's kinda how everything works right now eh? If you want to survive you might have to stick to what you don't always enjoy doing - like for instance, studying for a degree. Seriously, even if you have skills that pay the bills, what's even more important is to get hired for these skills! I couldn't agree more. I design, I sing, I write songs and I think I'm pretty talented in them - but hey, tonnes of other people are trying to get their skills and talents noticed so I'm not unrealistic to think that I'm going to ditch everything else and focus just on these. I'll starve to death before I even churn out a one hit wonder.

I love this song, it depicts the reality well without sounding too intimidating. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

La La La Laaa…
La La La La La Laaa…
La La La La La Laaa…
La La La La La Laaa…
La La La La La Laaa…
La La La La La Laaa…
La Laaa… La Laaa…

Ooh! Pening kepala
Memikirkan tak ada kerja
Tanam Anggur
Sijil diploma
Ah! Gantung didinding saja

Ooh! Lega rasanya
Jawat kerja pegawai pemasaran
Di Pertama
Rupa, oh! Rupanya
Kerja am sajaaa!

La La La Laaa… La, hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!
La La La Laaa… La, hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!

Ooh! Terpinga-pinga
Tak puas lagi beradu, mengantuk
Subuh hingga senja
Ah! Hari-hari sama saja

Ah! Nak bancuh kopi
Tapi gulanya tiada, minum saja
Kerja bagai nak gila
Ah! Tak juga kayaaa!

La La La Laaa… La, hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!
La La La Laaa… La, hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!

Gelisah, kugelisah
Mengenangkan masa depan
Kuharus kerja
Oh! Mesti kerja
Tiada apa yang percuma
Realiti tika tiada kerja
Oh! Papa kedanaaa!

La La La Laaa… La, hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!
La La La Laaa… Hari-hari kerja!
La La La Laaa… Bosan dengan kerja, haha!
La La La Laaa… La, hidup harus kerja, kerja!

La La La Laaa La La…
La La La Laaa La La…
La La La Laaa La La…

Depapepe

Depapepe is an acoustic guitar musical duo formed in 2002, consisting of Takuya Miura (born April 5, 1983) and Yoshinari Takuoka (born on July 15, 1977).

I only found out about their existence a couple of days ago when my friend mentioned their name while suggesting songs that we could be jamming to. I looked them up and found this video. Their talent captivated me instantly and has inspired me to improve my skills because I want to be able to play like them, hopefully in the near future. I'm also looking for people to jam with because I realize how much you can actually learn when you exchange ideas and skills with someone else. Their composition is seemingly simple but complex at the same time. I absolutely love their creativity, who knew you could produce something so beautiful with just two guitars? I love their songs so much!

Spur, my favorite song from Depapepe so far.

Covers And Creativity

So previously I posted my own cover of Bad Romance. It isn't among the best production I know, but I'm planning on investing on a decent condensed microphone so I can eventually record better quality videos and songs. Now, I'm actually a huge fan of covers because people who put them together are really talented and creative. Some people made a fool out of themselves, some collaborated with musicians, some sang while playing ten other instruments, some did better than the original, these creative juices never cease to impress me and inspire me to do better!

Here are a few videos I find really inspiring and well, for lack of a better word - unique.

Tiffany Alvord singing a medley of Taylor Swift songs. I was NEVER a huge fan of Taylor, but after watching this I started to soften up. This is definitely one of the videos that make you go WOW.

Number Exchange's cover of Paparazzi. I don't understand why they're getting so little views when their cover is so awesome! I couldn't stop listening to this cover.

Singing Dork with a few of his friends singing their rendition of Empire State of Mind. This is pure talent and raw vocal. No fancy cinematic effects, just pure music performance.

Los Colorados doing a cover of Katy Perry's Hot'n'Cold. Well, they're pretty creative and added a twist to what we would conceive as pop music these days.

With so many talented musicians out here, it is mind boggling to distinguish yourself from the rest. But guess what? There's no limit to creativity, so keep those awesomeness coming!

Bad Romance (Jazz Improv)

Cover

Couple of months ago Lady GaGa came up with a new album entitled "The Fame Monster", Bad Romance was an instant hit and took the world by storm! It was played on the radio gazillion times a day, the music video inspired millions of spoof experts to work on their creative juices, the single needless to say topped billboard charts for months, and there were so many covers posted on Youtube. I decided to join the crowd since I love her and the song so much. Oh don't be hating me or judge me, you have to admit she IS quite a Fame Monster and talented.

I've never been skeptical about getting views on Youtube because I watch the most random videos there! So I'm not extremely surprised when I get comments or couple of hundred views on this video since it's one of the hottest covers on Youtube, but when the number of hits started to hit thousands and number of subscribers hit 150 I was pumped! I get about 11,300 hits as of today. I'm proud even though it's not really a huge number, but I'm getting there! There were some very funny comments, some insulting ones that implied I shouldn't be singing this particular song cos I'm Asian (umm, okay?), but most of them are quite friendly and supportive. I improvised the song with some Jazz element and hopefully I'll get around to make a tab for my cover version because many people have been requesting for it. Terribly sorry guys, college is really on top of my head right now.

Hope you enjoy it! The quality isn't as good as those posted by professional Youtubers but I promise I'll get a better one up as soon as I'm done with Spring semester. Can't wait for Summer as I have tonnes of plans lining up of which one of them involves revamping this blog of mine!

Till then, remember to subscribe to my channel! More covers and original songs will be up soon.

Hidden Talent

Musicians and music enthusiast from all over the world share their musical talents by projecting their beautiful vocal and expertise in various instruments through song covers and also their own original tracks. Presenting some of my favorite musicians, of which most of them already had record deal under their belt.

Konayuki

Song Review

Remioromen -
Konayuki 粉雪

粉雪舞う季節はいつもすれ違い
konayuki mau kisetsu wa itsumo surechigai
人混みに紛れても同じ空見てるのに
hitogomi ni magiretemo onaji sora miteru noni
風に吹かれて 似たように凍えるのに
kaze ni fukarete nita you ni kogoeru noni

僕は君の全てなど知ってはいないだろう
boku wa kimi no subete nado shitte wa inai darou
それでも一億人から君を見つけたよ
soredemo ichioku nin kara kimi wo mitsuketa yo
根拠はないけど本気で思ってるんだ
konkyo wa nai kedo honki de omotterunda

些細な言い合いもなくて同じ時間を生きてなどいけない
sasai na iiai mo nakute onaji jikan wo ikite nado ikenai
素直になれないなら 喜びも悲しみも虚しいだけ
sunao ni narenai nara yorokobi mo kanashimi mo munashii dake

粉雪 ねえ 心まで白く染められたなら
konayuki nee kokoro made shiroku somerareta nara
二人の孤独を分け合う事が出来たのかい
futari no kodoku wo wakeau koto ga dekita no kai ?

僕は君の心に耳を押し当てて
boku wa kimi no kokoro ni mimi wo oshiatete
その声のする方へすっと深くまで
sono koe no suru hou he sutto fukaku made
下りてゆきたい そこでもう一度会おう
orite yukitai soko de mou ichido aou

分かり合いたいなんて 上辺を撫でていたのは僕の方
wakariaitai nante uwabe wo nadeteita no wa boku no hou
君のかじかんだ手も 握りしめることだけで繋がってたのに
kimi no kajikanda te mo nigirishimeru koto dake de tsunagatteta noni

粉雪 ねえ 永遠を前にあまりに脆く
konayuki nee eien wo mae ni amari ni moroku
ざらつくアスファルトの上シミになってゆくよ
zaratsuku asufaruto no ue shimi ni natteyuku yo

粉雪 ねえ 時に頼りなく心は揺れる
konayuki nee toki ni tayori naku kokoro wa yureru
それでも僕は君のこと守り続けたい
soredemo boku wa kimi no koto mamori tsuzuketai

粉雪 ねえ 心まで白く染められたなら
konayuki nee kokoro made shiroku somerareta nara
二人の孤独を包んで空にかえすから
futari no kodoku wo tsutsunde sora ni kaesu kara

Translated version :

Powdered Snow

The season in which the powdered snow dances always passes by
Even if I’m lost in a crowd I can see the same sky
Even though I'm chilled as if I'm being blown by the wind

I don't know anything about you, do I?
And yet, I found you amongst a billion people

We can't live at the same time without trivial fights
If I can't be honest, then rapture and sorrow are meaningless

Powdered snow, if you paled me white to the heart
Can you share our loneliness?

I pressed my ear against your heart
Going gently, deeply towards where the sound (is coming from)
(That's where) I want to disembark,
There, we'll meet once again

I want us to reach rapport but I was the (only) one who touched its surface
The only thing that was holding us together was my hand squeezing yours that was numb with cold
Powdered snow, in front (of us), eternity, too fragilely, becomes a stain upon rough asphalt

Powdered snow, this heart that has transcended time is faltering
And yet, I want to continue to protect you

Powdered snow, if you paled me white to the heart
You would wrap around our loneliness and send it back into the sky.

Introducing the sub theme song, "Konayuki" by Remioromen from One Liter of Tears.
Every time I listen to this song, it reminded me of the scenes from the drama. And it has never failed to make me cry every time the song starts playing along as the story progresses. I never understood the meaning of the lyrics as it was in Japanese, but I guess it's predictable since the rhythm is understood, and the emotions is clearly depicted through the song itself. Well, it's sad.

Ordinary World

Song Review

Katharine McPhee -
Ordinary World

The sun can't remember how to shine
And the colors all have faded into shades of gray
There's no life in this hollow heart of mine
Ever since you went away

Close your eyes and feel me hold you
Can you lead me through this ordinary world
Let the sky cry, restless rain to wash away the miles
Between us, 'cause without you it's just an ordinary world

If time could find a way to turn around
I would walk along the stars, till I was back at your door
Every word, every word is spoken but without a sound
And I found out what my heart is for

Close your eyes and feel me hold you
Can you lead me through this ordinary world
Let the sky cry, restless rain to wash away the miles
Between us, 'cause without you it's just an ordinary world

Hold your breath, here I come
Time to roll on mine
Take back, to your arms
Till we melt
Underneath the blinding sun

Can't remember how to shine
You're the life in this hollow heart of mine

Close your eyes and feel me hold you
Can you lead me through this ordinary world
Let the sky cry, restless rain to wash away the miles between us
'Till love can come redeem us 'cause without you
It's just an ordinary world

Video

Although this song sounded like it's been taken from bits and pieces of several different songs combined, it's nonetheless beautifully written. I'm hooked. :), 'cause without you it's just an ordinary world.
